The Porteño Lake Kayak Expedition is a full-day experience designed around the core philosophy of Latitud Expedition: mindful exploration, deep connection with the landscape, and safe navigation through remote environments.
Located just 1 hour and 15 minutes from Puerto Natales, this remarkable lake offers a rare combination of features found nowhere else in southern Patagonia: dense evergreen forests, clearly visible glacial formations, iconic mountain scenery, and exceptional views of the Paine Massif, which can be seen in all its grandeur from the center of the lake on clear days.

08:00 – Departure from Puerto Natales Travel by private vehicle toward Porteño Lake. During the drive, your guide will provide interpretation of the landscape, the history of the watershed, and the geographical context of the region.
09:30 – Arrival at Porteño Lake Equipment preparation, assessment of weather conditions, and a technical and environmental safety briefing.
10:30 – Begin Kayaking We paddle along the shoreline of the lake, where ancient lake terraces and eroded cliffs reveal the historical fluctuations of the lake's water levels over time.
Midday – Lake Crossing This section offers the most expansive views of the Paine Massif, showcasing a unique contrast of mountains, evergreen forests, and crystal-clear waters.
13:30 – Lakeside Box Lunch Landing on the lakeshore to enjoy a camping-style box lunch, with time to rest, take photographs, and appreciate the surrounding wilderness.
14:30 – Short Hike to the Waterfall A short walk to the waterfall that connects with Lake Maravilla, while learning about the natural drainage system of this interconnected lake network.
15:30 – Return Paddle Return by kayak, completing a triangular route through more sheltered sections of the lake and closing the circuit.
18:00 – 19:00 – Return to Puerto Natales Arrival back in Puerto Natales and end of the experience.
