This half-day kayaking excursion takes place in Last Hope Sound, paddling around the historic Island of the Dead (Krüger Island). The experience combines nature, history, and navigation in one of Patagonia’s most iconic landscapes.
Historical Background
• Puerto Prat: Founded in the early 20th century as a strategic hub for transportation and navigation in the region.
• Puerto Consuelo: Closely linked to the family of Hermann Eberhard, pioneers of Patagonian settlement and development.
• Island of the Dead / Krüger Island: Its name originates from the discovery of human remains associated with some of the region’s earliest settlements.
Afternoon departure: 14:30 – 19:00 hrs.
• Total paddling time: approximately 2 hours.
• Estimated distance: 4–5 km (2.5–3.1 miles).
• Includes stops for rest, interpretation, and photography.
Logistics & Access
• Departure from Puerto Natales by vehicle.
• Approximate ground transfer: 20 minutes (≈17 km / 10.5 miles) to Puerto Prat.
• Launch and landing at Puerto Prat.

• Single kayak: maximum weight 100 kg (220 lbs); height between 1.50 m and 1.90 m (4'11"–6'3").
• Double kayak: maximum combined weight 220 kg (485 lbs); height between 1.45 m and 1.95 m (4'9"–6'5").
• Minimum age: 14 years old when accompanied by an adult; 16 years old unaccompanied with written parental authorization.
• The excursion operates safely in sustained winds of up to 45 km/h.
Stronger wind gusts may require the activity to be rescheduled.
